Morocco is once again the destination for The Coventry University Changing Lives Programme which takes students on a 10-day cross-cultural exchange experience.
Applications are welcome to join the next visit which will take place on 28 October – November 2016.
This unique initiative gives you the opportunity to work with local partner organisations in Morocco to create workshops, community projects, tours and discussion groups and forge lasting and meaningful connections and experiences.
All full-time Coventry University students who are enrolled at the University as of 1 January 2016 are eligible to apply for the programme, which, thanks to the generosity of Coventry alumni, is fully funded, but in line with the ethos of the initiative, we do ask you to donate £100 as a gift to the Changing Lives Programme which will then be used to support the next cohort of successful applicants.
It is more than just a cross-cultural exchange, though, the whole experience will broaden your view of the world, allow you to take part in some amazing volunteering projects and also help you develop as a person.
Why is Changing Lives different from other kinds of projects?
Brendan St. John, Changing Lives Programme Project Manager said:
“Our programme takes a radically different approach. We use the insight of local partners to create workshops, community projects, tours and discussion groups that present ‘their’ lives. By being involved in their lives, the programme enables our students to challenge their own attitudes and create lasting and meaningful human connections and experiences.”
There are three tailor-made and unique programmes focusing on community development, youth development and peace building. The programmes are packed full of workshops, volunteering activities, interactive tours and facilitated discussion groups covering historical, political, social and environmental perspectives.
The programme has been funded by Dr Majid AlSadi; one of Coventry University’s highest achieving alumni. Dr Majid is the Chairman and CEO of Eastern Holding and a major philanthropist who has been supporting the University’s development over the past nine years.
Since it foundation in 2012 the programme has given over 100 Coventry students and 10 staff a ‘once in a life time’ opportunity to enhance and enrich the lives of all its participants.
Some of the students that have already taken part in the Changing Lives programme can testify to its life-changing claim, you can hear what they have to say by looking at the films via the links below:
